Tuition & Scholarships

In order to follow the programme, students need to pay a participation cost, covering all activities the different universites should reasonably provide to enable you to complete your degree.

What exactly does that include?

Covered: lectures, case study participation, tuition fee for all partners where you take courses. For all Erasmus Mundus Scholarship students and self-supporting Erasmus Mundus Partner country* students an accident and travel insurance is included in the participation cost.

Not Covered: mobility between partner institutes, accommodation and living costs. For VLIR-UOS scholarship students and self-supporting Erasmus Mundus Programme country* students the accident and travel insurance is not included in the participation cost.

Financial aid in the form of scholarships can be awarded to top applicants. A limited number of scholarships are awarded. You can select whether or not you wish to apply for a scholarship during the online application. The application team nominates top applicants for scholarships. These applicants are then presented to the IMRD Selection Committee which decides on the final scholarship selection.

The results of the scholarship selection are communicated by May for VLIR-UOS scholarships.

Be aware: For the academic year 2024-2025 there are no Erasmus Mundus scholarships!

To be eligible for a scholarship your online application needs to be submitted before 01 March!

Tuition

€ 4500 per academic year for programme country nationals

€ 9000 per academic year for partner country nationals

  • An Erasmus Mundus Programme country is defined as any of the European member states as well as Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Turkey. Please check the following link for a full list of the Erasmus + programme and partner countries. An Erasmus Mundus Partner country national is defined as any country that is not a programme counrty

You will only need to pay tuition after the application procedure is completed and before you enroll in IMRD. Tuition must be paid before the end of August if you wish to enroll in September.

IMRD Scholarships
Erasmus Mundus

Full Erasmus Mundus scholarships are not available for academic year 2025-2026. Hopefully these are available again for students in 2026-2027 for all nationalities.

The scholarships cover your tuition fee, 1000 euro monthly allowance and a contribution to be used for travel and installation costs during the programme.

Each year an average of 20 of the top applicants are selected for these scholarships! The applicantion for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship is integrated into the online application procedure for IMRD.

VLIR-UOS

ICP Connect study programmes are accredited international study programmes organized at one or more Flemish universities that focus on subjects in line with the Agenda 2030 and SDG principles. VLIR-UOS supports to integrate global perspectives and strengthen the global south and network dimension into the existing programmes. IMRD is one of the 15 ICP connect programmes and provides 10 scholarships per year.

Only applicants from 29 eligible countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America can apply.

VLIR-UOS scholarships cover the tuition fee, travel costs, insurance and a monthly living allowance.

Top-up grant

Ghent University provides Top-up Grants to selected candidates from countries on the longlist of the OESO-DAC list. Top IMRD applicants can be nominated for this scholarship. Applicants can't apply for this scholarship directly.

This is not a full scholarship. The tuition fee is partially waived, and students receive a monthly allowance amounting to €1000.

Erasmus + student exchange

Under the framework of Erasmus+ student exchange, students enrolled in IMRD can apply for financial support during the second year of the programme if they spend this time at another European University (not Ghent University).

This is not a full scholarship, and students may only apply once they are already enrolled in IMRD. Monthly allowance is between € 235-285 depending on which country you go to.

Application deadline: January 31st during the first year of the programme

External scholarships and funding

On the website of the International Training Centre you may find a list of external scholarship opportunities not linked to the IMRD consortium. These opportunities are not managed by IMRD. You need to apply separately for the scholarship(s) according to their requirements and deadlines. Check the website for more information.
